OpenAI abruptly released a flood of mathematical results this week, and more than three dozen mathematicians are trying to make sense of them. In conversations with The Verge they reached for words like “staggering” and “unprecedented”. The scale is so large that digesting it could take years.
Anthropic said it turned off live internet access for all of its internal evaluations until further notice. The move comes as the company says it cannot reliably control its AI agents. For now it keeps testing inside a closed environment.
Cloudflare announced it is acquiring the Deno team outright. The goal is to build on their open source project celld and make workerd self-hosting a first-class way to build and run apps using the Workers programming model. Deno shipped the first version of celld back in August.
TypeSafe, the maker of the non-text AI model Jev, was valued at $7.5 billion just weeks after launch. What has users and large corporations excited is the claim that Jev runs significantly faster and uses far fewer tokens than regular language models.
Security firm Sophos deployed OpenAI Daybreak and cut cyber-threat investigation time by 96%. It also automated 52% of its managed detection and response cases while keeping human oversight. It is a nice example of AI speeding up security teams without replacing people.
