Strengths
- OpenAI's cheapest current model: $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens.
- OpenAI reports 66.6% on the DeepSWE v1.1 coding test, similar to Claude Opus 5 at medium effort, at 93% lower cost per task.
- The highest rate limits in the GPT-6 family and a context window of about a million tokens.
Weaknesses
- Much weaker general intelligence. It scores 28 on the Artificial Analysis index against 55 for GPT-6.1 Sol, and only 9 with thinking switched off.
- Wordy. It produced 110 million output tokens on the Artificial Analysis test.
- For developers: in the older Chat Completions API, tool calling only works with thinking switched off, so tools need the Responses API.
Best for
- sorting text and extracting data at scale
- low-cost chatbots and routing questions
- helper agents in automated pipelines
Not ideal for
- complex reasoning and research
- tasks where accuracy matters more than cost
How to use it in Europe
ChatGPT Free and Go users get limited use of it in ChatGPT Work and Codex in the desktop app. Paid plans Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise also have it in Work and Codex. Mainly, though, it is a developer model through the OpenAI API, which is available in Slovakia and Czechia. OpenAI offers it with EU data residency, and regional processing costs 10% more.
