Alibaba releases Qwen3.8-Max, its largest and open-weight model yet ↗

Alibaba unveiled Qwen3.8-Max, which it calls its largest and most capable AI model to date. The company claims performance rivaling the best systems from US frontier labs Anthropic and OpenAI, as well as domestic rivals like Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3. The open-weight model is being made widely available.

Europe’s AI labeling and transparency rules are now in effect ↗

New transparency obligations under the EU’s AI Act came into effect on August 2nd. Companies must disclose when people are interacting with an AI model and flag AI-generated content, including deepfakes. The goal is to make chatbots and synthetic media easier to identify online.
